Christus Spohn And Oceans Healthcare Announce Plans for Partnership in Corpus Christi

June 22, 2020

Agreement will result in important affiliation that will augment our existing behavioral health services.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas. – CHRISTUS Spohn Health System and Oceans Healthcare today announced an important affiliation, which will give behavioral health patients access to enhanced mental health services in a hospital setting. Effective August 15, CHRISTUS Spohn will officially enter into a management and operation agreement with Texas-based Oceans Healthcare to manage the health system’s program.

“We are excited to have Oceans Healthcare join our health care ministry. They bring nearly two decades of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health experience as well as access to resources that will optimize our existing services,” explained Osbert Blow, MD, PhD, FACC, President and Chief Medical Officer, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System. “This move reflects a trend we are seeing across the nation as leading health providers are joining together to leverage specialized experience in managing behavioral health programs including inpatient and outpatient services and, ultimately, increase capacity to serve vulnerable and at-risk populations.”

Across the country, many communities face challenges in providing adequate behavioral and mental health care services in the right settings at the right time, and the Coastal Bend is no different. Needs for behavioral health care in the Coastal Bend are so great that no one organization or person can do it alone.

“We are honored to partner with CHRISTUS Spohn and share their longstanding commitment to increasing access to much-needed behavioral health care services, especially among vulnerable and at-risk populations,” said Stuart Archer, CEO of Oceans Healthcare. “Working together, we look forward to not only maintaining quality services but – over time – increasing the breadth of treatment options available as we learn more about community needs.”

In the coming weeks, Oceans Healthcare and CHRISTUS Spohn are expected to make additional announcements as they work together to map out the future of the Corpus Christi location of these behavioral health services. Behavioral health services will continue to be offered for the time being at our CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Memorial location.
