Oceans Behavioral Hospital Opelousas Expanding Outpatient Care, Opening New Location

May 9, 2024

Behavioral health provider increases treatment capacity with move to new outpatient facility

OPELOUSAS, La. – Oceans Behavioral Hospital – Opelousas, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced its Intensive Outpatient Program for adults 18 and older will significantly expand access to services by relocating to a new, larger facility.

The new location at 1325 Heather Drive (across from the hospital’s inpatient campus) is replacing the previous outpatient program building on Jake Drive and will provide more space for specialized therapies and treatments.

The expansion comes as the need for mental health services in Louisiana grows. According to the 2023 Mental Health America report, the state is 37th in the nation for access to care and more than 52% of individuals living with mental health conditions do not receive treatment.

“We know access is a significant barrier preventing individuals from receiving the care they need, and we’re passionate about helping people find the treatment option that works best for them,” said Heather Briggs, IOP director of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Opelousas. “By expanding the space for our services, more people in need of flexible care will be able to prioritize their mental wellness.”

The program offers specialized intensive outpatient treatment for individuals managing depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and other behavioral health challenges. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and progress. As patients improve, they receive tools to support ongoing symptom management and overall well-being.
