Inpatient facility now providing behavioral health services for adults and seniors

NEW ORLEANS (March 24, 2021) – Oceans Healthcare today announced the opening of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans’ new flagship campus. The Bellemeade campus, located at 229 Bellemeade Boulevard in Gretna, joins locations in Marrero and Kenner as part of the Oceans Healthcare Greater New Orleans network.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans provides inpatient services, including individual and group therapies, medication management, mental health education and treatment for co-occurring health issues, under the supervision of board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrists. The 48-bed hospital specializes in treatment for adults age 20 and older who are managing depression, anxiety, behavioral side effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia and other forms of mental illness.

Louisiana ranks in the top five states in the nation with the highest percentage of adults reporting symptoms of anxiety or depression. It ranks second among states with the highest percentage of adults with a serious mental illness who did not receive treatment in the past year.

“Oceans Healthcare has deep roots in Louisiana, and we’re thrilled to grow our presence in Greater New Orleans. This new hospital will significantly expand our capacity to provide much-needed behavioral health care to an even broader range of adults and seniors – filling a critical need in this community,” said Stuart Archer, CEO of Oceans Healthcare. “Across the country and around the state, we’re seeing an increase in the number of people struggling with a mental health issue. By investing in this facility and broadening the services we offer, we hope to provide a lifeline for more people in need of help.”

With rising rates of depression, anxiety and substance abuse, experts predict the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to have an ongoing negative effect on mental health as more people cope with isolation and job loss. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans will provide New Orleans East and the neighboring communities with a new dedicated space for ongoing healing and treatment.

“I’m proud to have been a part of the Oceans family for more than a decade. During that time, I’ve had a front row seat to the positive impact our team has been able to make on so many lives,” said Deb Spiers, administrator of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans. “With this new facility, we expand our ability to treat patients struggling with a range of behavioral health issues – patients who might not otherwise have a place to turn.”
