Oceans Behavioral Hospital Abilene, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the expansion of its Intensive Outpatient Program with additional services specifically focused on addressing the unique emotional and behavioral health needs of active duty military, veterans and their loved ones.
The difficult and challenging physical and emotional requirements of military service can sometimes have lasting mental health effects. Approximately 18.5 percent of service members returning home from Afghanistan or Iraq have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression. Service members and their families also report experiencing psychological challenges including anxiety, depression and behavioral disorders.
“The city of Abilene is recognized as a military-friendly town due to the community support of Dyess Air Force Base,” said Stacey Sanford, hospital administrator at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Abilene. “We fully embrace the city’s reputation and look forward to the opportunity to positively impact the lives of close to 11,000 active duty, enlisted and retired members of the military and their families in our community. Together with other mental health providers in the area, this expansion will increase access to much-needed services for this unique population.”
Located less than 20 minutes from Dyess Air Force Base, Oceans’ Intensive Outpatient Program for military members is a convenient treatment option allowing individuals to receive therapy in the evenings several times per week while remaining in their home environments. Individualized treatment plans are created to address common mental and emotional issues such as PTSD, combat stress reaction (CSR), anxiety, grief and loss, depression, substance abuse, domestic violence/anger, sexual trauma and other psychiatric disorders.
Referrals for the program can be made by phone at (325) 691-0030. Medicare, TRICARE and most private insurance is accepted.
