Intensive Outpatient Program
If you are living with a substance use disorder (SUD) or mental health condition, you likely feel very isolated. It can feel difficult to relate to your community when you’re experiencing a condition that changes so much about your daily life.
The Oceans Experience
Oceans is committed to providing quality behavioral health in a safe environment. With our telehealth capabilities we can conduct therapy, education and diagnosis via phone or video. We accept Medicare, TRICARE and most private insurance.
It is important to remember that you are not alone. In 2021, 46 million people in the United States reported living with a substance use disorder. Once you’ve identified SUD or a mental health condition, the next step is getting help.
If you have recently completed an inpatient stay or a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP) may provide a level of care that is best for you. Alternatively, if you feel like regular outpatient therapy is not providing you with the level of support you need, moving to IOP might be the right fit.
At Oceans Healthcare, we provide a safe, respectful space for people recovering from mental health conditions and SUDs of all kinds to heal and grow through a variety of treatment options included in our IOP.
What We Treat: Mental Health Conditions and Substance Use Disorders
At Oceans Healthcare, we understand that mental health and SUD can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unsure of the next step. Often, people living with mental health conditions and/or SUD have experienced trauma, whether it was recently or many years ago, that makes it difficult to cope with aspects of daily life.
If you are constantly overwhelmed by your mental state, you may find it difficult to do basic tasks like cooking, cleaning, and self-grooming. It can also be difficult for people living with trauma to get through life with triggers. Sometimes, it is possible to avoid triggering situations, but often they can occur suddenly. Starting treatment can help you come up with coping mechanisms to successfully manage difficult situations.
If you’ve found yourself turning to substances as a way to cope – you’re not the first. In fact, almost half of all people with SUD report a co-occurring mental health condition. Likely, the number of people who have not reported experiencing SUD with a co-occurring mental health condition, but are still living with one, is much higher. The reality is that while substance use may make you feel better in the short term, it makes the symptoms of mental health conditions worse over time.
However, life can take a turn for the better once your condition has been diagnosed. This is the first step towards a life that puts you in control of your future. Oceans Healthcare is here to provide you with support that will help you get through difficult periods so that you can live a more fulfilling, joyful life as you recover from SUD and mental health conditions.
How We Treat: Tailored Care at Oceans
We know that because no two people are the same, your treatment shouldn’t be the same, either. For this reason, we provide you with individualized treatment plans. You can expect the following therapies and treatments in our intensive outpatient programming:
Group Therapy
Group therapy is an important part of treatment for SUD and mental health conditions. This setting can help you see that you are not alone. Group therapy allows you to share your experiences in a safe, validating environment where you’ll learn from others, celebrate each other’s successes, and lean on each other for support.
Separated by Age Group
In our IOP, we separate cohorts by age group. Specifically, we have different groups for adolescents 13-17 years of age, a group for adults ages 18-54, and our senior group for individuals who are 55+. We understand that recovery looks different at different stages of your life. A teenager who hasn’t graduated from high school yet has very different goals than a married mother of two or a retiree.
By providing unique options for different age groups, we ensure that our clients get the most out of their therapy sessions and have the opportunity to connect with others who are at similar stages in their lives. We believe this helps clients see that realistic goals are attainable, and when they experience a setback, they are not alone.
Support for Families
We understand that family support is vital to many people’s recovery process. That is why we are proud to provide support for the families and caregivers of our clients as part of our IOP. Support for families and caregivers can help them better understand their loved one’s condition, how to provide support, and how to take care of themselves throughout this process.
What to Expect In Our Intensive Outpatient Program: The “Oceans Six” Promise
At Oceans Healthcare, we see our clients as individuals with unique experiences, needs, and goals. To best support them, we follow 6 core values daily in each of our facilities:
- Dignity. We are dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment. We know that everyone’s life experiences are different, and we want you to feel supported at our facilities, regardless of your background. We have created a space where you, your family, and our team members all know you will be treated with respect.
- Comprehensive care. Our company has roots in geriatric care, so we understand the importance of treating not just the mind but the body, as well. By helping you build your mind-body connection, we help you understand your own needs to aid your recovery in the long term.
- Quality. Oceans Healthcare is always looking for ways to improve, and our staff of board-certified psychiatrists and clinicians understand the importance of lifelong learning, so we can stay on the cutting edge of the field.
- Integrity. Oceans Healthcare believes that information is power. We want you to understand everything we do and why we do it, from how we build our treatment plans and determine diagnoses to the cost of care at our facilities. We empower you to take charge of your care from the time you enter our doors.
- Advocacy. Here at Oceans, we want you to know that you have our continued support. We advocate for your needs, whether it’s at our facility or in your life outside of our care.
- Teamwork. We believe collaboration leads to the best outcomes, which is why our team of clinicians will work with you and each other to understand your individual needs and ensure the best treatment possible for your recovery.
How Long Does Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Last
Clients who come to our IOP typically participate for roughly two hours in the evening 2 to 3 days a week. We often see our clients stay in IOP for between 8 and 12 weeks, but this is not set in stone.
At Oceans Healthcare, we are proud to tailor our treatment options to your needs. For this reason, the length of stay depends on factors that are unique to you. These factors may include dual-diagnosis status, the severity of your condition, reactions to medication, and the level of ongoing support you have outside of the program.
Why Choose an Intensive Outpatient Program Over Residential Treatment: What’s The Difference?
Residential Treatment is a very high level of care, which is not needed for every individual. Residential treatment can be a good fit for someone afraid that they will harm themselves or someone else, or who needs a stable environment while they begin recovery. However, not everyone who experiences a mental health condition or SUD needs this high level of care.
Many people have a safe environment at home but need more support than once-weekly therapy can provide. In this case, IOP is often the best option.
IOP is also often the best option for people who are looking for a considerable amount of therapy and support but want or need to work full-time. We offer IOP in the evenings so you can maintain your usual schedule during business hours.
