Behavioral health providers announce Intensive Outpatient Programs for children and teens
BATON ROUGE, La. (Sept. 3, 2024) – Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge and Oceans Behavioral Hospital Broussard, behavioral health providers focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the opening of adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). The hospitals are part of the Oceans Healthcare system and serve southern and Southeast Louisiana.
The new programs will provide specialized mental health treatment for young people managing depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and other behavioral health challenges.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge will serve teens ages 13-17 at 7855 Howell Boulevard, while Oceans Behavioral Hospital Broussard will treat adolescents ages 12-17 at its Lafayette campus, 800 Kaliste Saloom Road.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month and increased access to mental health treatment is a critical need for adolescents in Louisiana. Approximately 49,000 young people in the state reported serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, and nearly 20% of youth experienced major depression, according to the 2024 Mental Health America report.
“It’s important to meet patients where they are and when they need help, and our expanded outpatient options allow us to care for young people at critical stages of their life,” said Jamie Courville, outpatient director of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Broussard. “By offering treatment tailored to a young person’s concerns and lifestyle, we remove barriers to seeking care and build the foundation for ongoing well-being.”
Overseen by board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrists, the programs will offer group, individual and family therapy options and tools to support ongoing symptom management and overall well-being.
“The right care for each individual isn’t one-size-fits-all, and we want to provide treatment that considers a young person’s unique needs,” said Amy Beach, outpatient director of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge. “Outpatient care allows individuals to maintain a daily routine and sense of normalcy, an aspect that is often vital for success in removing the stigma associated with seeking mental health care for adolescents.”
Both hospitals currently offer sessions three nights a week from 4-6 p.m. to accommodate patients’ academic and personal schedules. Oceans Broussard also provides inpatient behavioral health treatment for adults and seniors 18 and older at its 420 Albertson Parkway location. Oceans Baton Rouge offers inpatient treatment options for adults and seniors.
