Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lake Charles Expands to Offer Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Mar 21st, 2018

LAKE CHARLES, La. (March 21, 2018) – Individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction are almost twice as likely to suffer from mental disorders. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lake Charles, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the addition of inpatient and intensive outpatient programs for adults 18 and older suffering from addiction and co-occurring mental health issues such as depression or anxiety.

In 2016, an estimated 44.7 million American adults experienced a mental illness, 20.1 million experienced a substance use disorder and 8.2 million experienced both. According to recent national research, the number of alcohol-related deaths per 100,000 in Louisiana is expected to reach 10.5 percent by 2025, an increase of roughly 26.5 percent over 2015. The number of drug-related deaths per 100,000 is expected to reach 31.8 percent by 2025, an increase of roughly 73 percent over 2015.

“The statistics related to drug and alcohol abuse in our state are hard to ignore,” said Monica Tatum. “Lives are being destroyed because of addiction and that’s why we feel it is important to expand our services to give individuals suffering from mental health issues and substance use a place to receive the long-term treatment they need. Addiction and mental illness go hand in hand, so it’s important for us to provide access to a spectrum of treatment resources – from safely-managed detox to psychiatrists and outpatient counselors – to ensure no one in our community who is suffering is left without options.”

The Oceans Lake Charles inpatient program is a 12-step model treatment option for those in need of alcohol or chemical detox while also managing a mental health issue. The hospital also provides step-down intensive outpatient counseling to ensure individuals are receiving the full spectrum of treatment often required for long-term management of co-occurring mental health and addiction issues. The intensive outpatient program allows individuals to undergo treatment for extended periods while remaining in their home environments.

The inpatient program features:

  • 12-step model to achieve and maintain sobriety
  • Individualized and group therapies for adults 18 and over
  • Medically-assisted alcohol and chemical detox as needed
  • Medically-assisted therapy as needed
