KENTWOOD, La. (June 29, 2021) – Oceans Healthcare today announced the opening of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Kentwood. The 18-bed hospital is a campus of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond and will serve adolescents ages 10-17, complementing the adult and geriatric treatment programs offered at Oceans’ Hammond location.
The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted adolescent mental health, with anxiety and depression some of the most frequently diagnosed conditions. According to a Mental Health America report, 54.9% of youth who struggled with a major depressive episode in Louisiana this year did not receive the care they needed. By continuing to expand access to behavioral health treatment, Oceans aims to reduce this number and help young people in need in Tangipahoa Parish.

Oceans Kentwood’s specialized adolescent program will treat young people facing behavioral health challenges while also providing education to ensure patients understand their diagnosis and the strategies to manage symptoms in recovery. The adolescent program features individual, family and group therapies; supportive therapy for chemical dependency and recovery education; trauma response therapy; expressive arts and mindfulness; and daily physician monitoring to ensure overall health and well-being. Next month, , Oceans Kentwood will also provide an intensive outpatient program for adults age 18 and older.
