Oceans Healthcare Opens Behavioral Health Hospital in Jackson

Third Mississippi location solidifies commitment to improving mental health infrastructure

JACKSON, Miss. – Oceans Healthcare, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the opening of its new location – Oceans Behavioral Hospital Jackson. The freestanding behavioral health hospital is located on the campus of St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital at 2969 North Curran Drive, Building A.

This marks the third hospital in the state for the organization – joining Oceans Biloxi and Oceans Tupelo – and further solidifies its commitment to addressing an acute critical lack of available inpatient mental health treatment options in Jackson and improving the state’s mental health infrastructure.

“We are extremely proud to make this investment in the Jackson community and deepen our commitment to the people of Mississippi,” said Stuart Archer, Oceans Healthcare CEO. “St. Dominic’s is a stalwart, offering a crucial lifeline for the community – neighbors, friends and family – and we’re grateful to share their campus as we make sure fewer individuals in need of care fall through the cracks. We look forward to the next chapter offering care where it’s needed most.”

Like many cities across the country, Jackson’s mental health care system is balancing increasing demand with the challenges of providing more accessible, affordable care. Patients in need can be faced with a choice of limited or overtaxed providers, often being treated in less-than-ideal settings like an emergency room. The 2024 Mental Health America report also revealed a stark mental health workforce shortage in the state with 500 individuals for every one behavioral health provider.

By opening its third hospital in the state, Oceans will restore services, increase care options including bringing new intensive outpatient services, and help more people access high-quality care.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Jackson provides inpatient mental health services for adults and seniors age 18 and older, managing conditions like depression, anxiety and other behavioral health concerns. The hospital will begin seeing patients in early December and continue to augment its current behavioral health offerings in the coming months with the expansion of intensive outpatient treatment.

“Oceans Healthcare has an outstanding track record of providing excellent care to their communities, not only in the state of Mississippi but across the country,” said Jeremy Tinnerello, RN, MSN, MHA, market president, St. Dominic’s. “We are excited about the many services that Oceans will provide on our campus helping to address the behavioral health needs for our community.”
