Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque recognized with the New Mexico Hospital Association Hospital of the Year and Quest for Excellence awards

Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque, a proud member of Oceans Healthcare, has been recognized by the New Mexico Hospital Association with its Hospital of the Year and Quest for Excellence awards for the hospital’s commitment to quality, patient safety and compassionate behavioral healthcare.

The Quest for Excellence Award is the association’s flagship quality honor, recognizing exemplary projects designed to improve clinical quality and patient care across New Mexico. Haven Albuquerque received the recognition for its Road to Zero initiative, a hospital-wide effort focused on reducing the use of restraint and seclusion through prevention, teamwork and trauma-informed care.

The initiative strengthened staff education around de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care principles while emphasizing individualized care planning and early therapeutic intervention. Through organization-wide training and continued quality improvement efforts, the hospital worked to identify patient needs sooner and reduce the need for restrictive interventions.

“When I reflect on the accomplishments that led to this recognition, what makes me most proud is the care our team provides to our patients every day,” said Kathleen Dostalik, chief executive officer of Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque. “Our work is not always easy, but our staff consistently show up with compassion, professionalism and a genuine commitment to helping people when they are at some of the most difficult points in their lives.”

Haven Albuquerque continues to build on the initiative through ongoing training in de-escalation and trauma-informed care. Restraint and seclusion reduction strategies have also been incorporated into staff orientation and continuing education, while leadership participation in post-event reviews remains an important part of the hospital’s quality improvement process.

“Every patient interaction helps us learn and improve,” said Jeanette Rodgers, quality and patient safety director at Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque. “This award belongs not only to our employees, but also to the patients who allow us to be part of their recovery journey. We remain committed to providing care that promotes safety, dignity, hope and recovery for every person who walks through our doors.”

The recognition reflects Haven Albuquerque’s continued focus on advancing practices that support safe, compassionate and trauma-informed care.
