Behavioral health provider hires industry veteran to lead communications and marketing strategy

PLANO, Texas. – Oceans Healthcare, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the appointment of Darin Szilagyi as senior vice president of communications. Szilagyi will develop and oversee all marketing and communications strategies across Oceans’ hospitals and partnerships, which span inpatient and outpatient treatment in nearly 50 facilities across nine states.

“Darin is not only a good communicator, he brings a wealth of health care operations and leadership knowledge that fuels a meaningful, deeply personal connection to the work he does,” said Stuart Archer, Oceans Healthcare CEO. “As we continue to evolve, his forward-thinking approach and strong communications and marketing experience will be key to growing our care network to reach more individuals in communities with a demonstrated need for mental health treatment, expanding our services and furthering our system’s commitment to high-quality care.”

The role is a first for the rapidly growing organization that in January acquired Nashville-based Haven Behavioral Healthcare.

“Behavioral health care is at a crossroads as more individuals than ever are seeking care, yet services are sometimes scarce and adequate funding remains a challenge across the country,” Szilagyi said. “Oceans Healthcare has a clear mission to make it easier to access exceptional care, and I’m proud to be a part of an organization advocating at the city, state and federal level for a seat at the table, so patients get the treatment they need and deserve. I’m honored to join this team and look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work.”

With more than two decades of leadership experience in health care marketing and communications, Szilagyi has proven track record of success across some of the nation’s most respected health care institutions. He served in senior roles at leading health care organizations including Memorial Hermann, CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System, the Methodist Health System of Dallas and Southwestern Health Resources, a clinically integrated network comprising Texas Health Resources and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Szilagyi serves as adjunct faculty and board chair of graduate health care education at the M.J. Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association and a leadership fellow of the Texas Hospital Association.

Szilagyi holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Texas Christian University.
