Oceans Behavioral Hospital – Pasadena Opens Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

May 10, 2024

The program will offer specialized mental health care for ages 12-17

PASADENA, Texas. – Oceans Behavioral Hospital – Pasadena, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the opening of its Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for adolescents ages 12-17. The newly expanded service line will provide specialized mental health treatment for young people managing depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and other behavioral health challenges. The hospital currently provides PHP services for adults.

Partial hospitalization is ideal for individuals who do not require the constant oversight of inpatient treatment but desire comprehensive care for their mental well-being. Combines structured, hands-on treatment with flexible scheduling, allowing adolescents to prioritize their mental health while maintaining current routines and living arrangements.

The hospital offers evening sessions Monday through Friday from 4:40-7:55 p.m. to accommodate patients’ academic and personal obligations.

May is Mental Health Month, and this year’s theme is, “Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World.” Uncertainty about how to access care often prevents young people from receiving treatment. Nearly 75% of youth living with major depression in Texas went untreated last year, according to the 2023 Mental Health America report. Recognizing the stark need for accessible adolescent options in the state, Oceans’ new program will allow more young adults to receive dedicated care.

“We’re proud to do our part to expand access to much-needed services for young people in our community. Too often, these individuals are underserved and unsure where to find the help they need,” said Shamieka Thomas, administrator at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Pasadena. “By adding this flexible treatment option for adolescents, we hope our reputation as a trusted resource throughout many stages of life will continue to grow.”

Overseen by board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrists, the program will offer individual, family and group therapy options and tools to support ongoing symptom management and overall well-being. Each partial hospitalization treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s unique needs.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Pasadena also offers inpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization treatment options for adults and seniors.
