LAFAYETTE, La. – Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana today welcomed its first patients, marking the official beginning of a new chapter in behavioral healthcare for the Acadiana region.
The new behavioral health hospital expands access to inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services for adolescents, adults and older adults across southwest Louisiana. Today also marks the official transition of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Broussard to Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana – Broussard, creating a regional behavioral health network with locations in Lafayette and Broussard.
Together, the two campuses provide 100 inpatient beds and expanded access to specialized behavioral healthcare throughout the region.
“This day represents far more than the opening of a new hospital,” said Stuart Archer, chief executive officer, Oceans Healthcare. “It represents the moment when years of planning, partnership, and investment become meaningful for the people who need behavioral healthcare today. Every patient who walks through these doors deserves compassionate, high-quality care delivered close to home, and we are proud to begin serving the Acadiana community alongside our partners at Ochsner Lafayette General.”
The new Lafayette hospital complements the longstanding behavioral health services provided at the Oceans Broussard campus, which will continue caring for patients under its new name as Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana – Broussard. Together, the two campuses provide a coordinated continuum of behavioral healthcare designed to meet the growing mental health needs of the region.
“Behavioral health touches every family, every workplace and every community,” said Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., chief executive officer, Ochsner Lafayette General. “As the need for these services continues to grow, expanding access to behavioral healthcare is essential to the health and well-being of our region. Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana will help more people receive the care they need locally while remaining connected to the communities and support systems that are so vital to healing and recovery.”
The opening reflects the shared commitment of Ochsner Lafayette General and Oceans Healthcare to address one of Acadiana’s most pressing healthcare needs by expanding access to comprehensive behavioral health services through a coordinated regional network.
