LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 10, 2023) – Oceans Healthcare, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the opening of its newest hospital in Lubbock. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lubbock, located at 4202 Princeton Street, expands access to behavioral health care in the community and will execute a phased opening, providing inpatient care immediately and adding an intensive outpatient program in the coming months.
Texas ranks last in the nation for access to mental health care, according to the 2023 Mental Health America report. Additionally, the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute reports 9% of adults in Lubbock County have a moderate mental health condition and 4% have a severe mental health condition. By continuing to expand behavioral health treatment, Oceans aims to reduce this number and help people access quality care in the state.
“At Oceans, we know that access to care is a significant barrier for many and we are passionate about expanding mental health services to meet the needs of underserved areas. Where you live shouldn’t dictate the care you receive,” said Stuart Archer, CEO of Oceans Healthcare. “Access has always been lacking and demand is continuing to rise. We recognize that mental health care is not one-size-fits-all and we’re committed to being part of the solution by providing additional resources to fill this urgent gap.”
The 32-bed hospital provides inpatient mental health services for older adults experiencing challenges like depression, anxiety or other behavioral health concerns complicated by a substance use dual diagnosis. In the future, the hospital will also provide intensive outpatient mental health services for adults 18 and older. Licensed medical and mental health professionals will guide each patient and their family through individually designed treatment programs that include diagnosis and symptom education.
“It’s critical that individuals living with mental health conditions and their families know there is a place for them to go if they need help,” said Marybeth Moran, administrator of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lubbock. “We look forward to further expanding the treatment options offered in the Lubbock community and hope to positively impact the lives of its residents. No one should have to manage their mental health alone.”
