LAKE CHARLES, La. (Dec. 20, 2018) – Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lake Charles, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the addition of inpatient child and adolescent treatment options to its mental health services. The hospital’s dedicated campus at 302 McNeese Street will serve children ages 5 to 11 and adolescents ages 12 to 17.
“Access to behavioral health services for children and adolescents continues to be a challenge across the country – particularly in Louisiana,” said Nick Guillory, chief operating officer at Oceans Healthcare. “Reports show more than 60 percent of Louisiana adolescents who struggle with depression do not receive treatment. We hope by expanding our services to include specialized treatment for these underserved groups we will encourage better utilization rates.”
Board-eligible child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Aneeta Afzal will lead the new program. Dr. Afzal acquired extensive experience in the role of medical director for hospitals and psychiatric centers throughout Louisiana prior to joining Oceans.
“I’m extremely passionate about ensuring children and their families have the proper information, treatment and support to overcome difficult behavioral health issues like depression or anxiety,” said Dr. Afzal. “I’m excited join Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lake Charles to continue to help children and adolescents in Louisiana receive the treatment they need to help them lead happier lives.”
