Inpatient facility now providing behavioral health services for adults and seniors
NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 18, 2018) – In Louisiana, approximately 154,000 adults aged 18 and older have a serious mental illness, defined as a diagnosable mental, behavioral or emotional disorder causing severe impairment to daily life activities. Yet less than half – only 38.2 percent – receive mental health treatment.
In an effort to increase access to behavioral health services, Oceans Healthcare today announced the opening of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Marrero, a campus of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans. The Marrero campus, located at 4500 Wichers Drive, is the third location in Oceans Healthcare’s Greater New Orleans network, which also includes owned facilities in Westbank-Gretna and Kenner, Louisiana. The facility officially opened Aug. 31.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Marrero provides specialized inpatient treatment options for patients ages 20-62 who are managing depression, anxiety, behavioral side effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia and other forms of mental illness.
“Most people will be impacted by behavioral health challenges in their lifetime,” said Stuart Archer, Oceans Healthcare CEO. “We see the impact on patients and their families while data clearly supports the need for more treatment options. Our continued expansion in Greater New Orleans means greater access to mental health resources and an even stronger commitment to our Louisiana communities.”
Oceans Healthcare previously managed the inpatient psychiatric licensed beds for West Jefferson Medical Center beginning earlier this year and eventually acquired the 16-bed remote campus this month. Oceans Healthcare has 17 owned locations and 15 Intensive Outpatient Programs across Louisiana and Texas. Companywide last year, Oceans Healthcare exceeded the national average quality scores for inpatient psychiatric facilities as determined by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Most recently, the provider expanded its inpatient behavioral services and Intensive Outpatient Program in Crowley and Lake Charles, Louisiana, to offer substance use disorder counseling.
