Oceans Behavioral Hospital Permian Basin Adds Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

May 29th, 2018

MIDLAND, Texas (May 29, 2018) – Oceans Behavioral Hospital Permian Basin, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the addition of child and adolescent psychiatrist Candes Dotson, D.O., to its clinical team.

In Texas, 600,000 children, youth, and their families experience behavioral health needs before the age of 18. Fifty-eight percent of these children do not receive treatment.

“Helping children and teens manage mental illness is the passion that drives me,” Dotson said. “Symptoms of depression or anxiety can often be debilitating, but with the right help, children and families can blossom while leading happy and productive lives.”

Dotson is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry. Prior to joining Oceans Behavioral Hospital Permian Basin, she served as an outpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dotson received her medical degree at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. She completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. During medical school, Dotson embarked on medical mission trips to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Permian Basin provides inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment options for adolescents 12 – 17 and adults 18 and older. Our team of board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and specialty-trained clinicians provide individual and family counseling; counselor-led support groups; medication management; and relapse prevention and mental health education.
