Medication Management in Seniors

Feb 19th, 2018

On average, older adults ages 65-79 receive more than 27 prescriptions for new medications each year.

Medication management is crucial when it comes to caring for older adults and seniors. Possible drug interactions and incorrect dosages could lead to complications and behavioral side effects, such as aggression or anxiety.

Older adults are at high risk for medication misuse due to conditions like pain, sleep disorders/insomnia, and anxiety. They are, therefore, more likely to receive prescriptions for psychoactive medications that, when misused, can be associated with depression and cognitive decline.

Oceans Healthcare’s medication management services work in tandem with our inpatient and outpatient behavioral health treatment to ensure patient needs are met.

Referral to our facility is rapid and our admissions professionals are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
