Program helps adults manage behavioral side effects of drug and alcohol use
ALEXANDRIA, La. (February 19, 2018) – Individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction are almost twice as likely to suffer from mental disorders. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the expansion of its Intensive Outpatient Program to include substance abuse counseling for adults 18 and older. The program aims to help individuals suffering from co-occurring mental health issues such as depression or anxiety as a result of alcohol or chemical dependency.
In 2016, an estimated 44.7 million American adults experienced a mental illness, 20.1 million experienced a substance abuse disorder and 8.2 million experienced both. According to recent national research, Louisiana is expected to experience a 56 percent increase in alcohol-related deaths and a 478 percent increase in drug-related deaths by 2025.
The program is designed to serve as a convenient and effective step down following successful completion of an inpatient or outpatient alcohol or chemical dependency program. This type of counseling is appropriate for individuals who do not require medical detox or 24-hour supervision. It allows individuals to undergo treatment for extended periods, often longer than a typical inpatient stay, while remaining in their home environments.
“People who suffer from co-occurring conditions often experience severe behavioral health symptoms that can be resistant to traditional outpatient treatment,” said Kacey Campbell, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria. “Our substance abuse counseling program is specially designed to provide adults with concurrent therapy aimed at achieving successful and long-lasting outcomes.”
The outpatient program features:
Referrals for the program can be made by phone at (318) 448-8473. Medicare, TRICARE and most private insurance is accepted.
